Description

What is the D2 visa?

If you want to live in Europe and you don't have European citizenship, an excellent option is to consider investing in Portugal.

Opening a business in Portugal is a relatively simple process and the minimum capital required is just €1. Of course, depending on the type of business, you will probably need more capital.

You will need to present a business plan that supports your project and ensures that you have the conditions to succeed.

Immigration processes have 2 phases

1
Obtaining a visa at the consulate
This is the first stage and must be applied for in a country where the expatriate is legally resident. It lasts 4 months and entitles you to 2 entries into Portugal.
2
Obtaining a residence permit
During the 4 months of the visa you will apply for a residence permit at an interview with the immigration services. The residence card is valid for 2 years, renewable.

Who can apply for a D2 visa?

All foreign citizens wishing to carry out an investment activity can apply for an entrepreneur's visa in Portugal.

So if you don't have Portuguese nationality or any other European nationality, you will need a visa to live in Portugal.

What is a business plan?

To apply for a D2 visa you need to create abusiness plan. The document should contain the company's objectives, strengths and weaknesses and how your goals will be achieved.

It must include an estimate of costs and risks, an analysis of the competition, what investments will be made and a strategic direction for starting the business in Portugal.

A good business plan gives you credibility and helps the Portuguese authorities to approve your visa.

What is the minimum capital to start a business?

It is possible to open a company with a share capital of 1 euro in Portugal, depending on the type of business you choose.

However, in order to be approved, small and medium-sized companies must have a share capital of between 3,000 and 5,000 thousand euros.

If I open a business, do I still have to apply for a visa?

Yes. You will need to apply for a D2 visa for investment and a family visa for your family, if applicable.
