want to immigrate to portugal but don't have a job?

want to immigrate to portugal but don't have a job?

The best solution may be a work-seeker's visa.

The job-search visa gives the prospective immigrant 120 days to look for work in Portugal, extendable to a further 60 days if they register with the IEFP (employment agency).

If you find a job, you don't need to leave Portugal

If you find a job with an employment contract (with social security and IRS deductions), then you can apply for a 2-year residence permit, renewable for a further 3 years. You don't need to leave Portugal.

Description

If I get a job, can I be hired?

Yes, you can. The work-seeker's visa allows you to work legally.

Please note that you must have a written employment contract and the employer must pay social security and IRS contributions.

Only then can you apply for a residence permit to stay in Portugal for as long as you want.

Can my family immigrate too?

Yes, they can, but they can only be legalized once you have received your residence card.

The Work Search Visa Has 2 Stages

1
Getting a visa and looking for a job
This is the first stage and must be applied for in a country where the expatriate is legally resident. It lasts 4 months and entitles you to 2 entries into Portugal.
2
Got a job? Apply for a residence permit
If you have found a job, you can apply for a residence permit valid for two years.

You must demonstrate to the Portuguese authorities that you have the means to stay in Portugal for 120 days.

If I can't find work, do I have to go back to my country?

Yes. There is no provision for you to remain in Portugal without a means of subsistence.

Apart from the visa, do I need anything else to sign the employment contract?

You will usually need three more personal documents:

  1. A Portuguese tax number
  2. A bank account in Portugal
  3. Social security number (NISS)
With the visa, can I travel within the European Union or back to my country?

Not really. The visa only allows you to enter Portugal legally, and only entitles you to 2 entries, so you'll have to plan any trips.

I already have an approved visa. Is the immigration process over?

No. The visa is valid for 4 months and during that time you will have to find a job with a local company.

You will then have to apply to Portuguese immigration for a residence permit valid for two years.
